Vaccinating Cheshire and Merseyside – celebrating one million doses

Cheshire and Merseyside’s COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, coordinated by the Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership, is celebrating the significant milestone of one million jabs given to local residents since the Programme started at the end of last year.

The Programme has worked incredibly quickly to deliver vaccines from a number of sites across Cheshire and Merseyside, including Hospital Hubs, Vaccination Centres, Community Pharmacies and GP Practices.

The Programme is a collaborative effort across the local health and care system and the Directors of Public Health have been supporting the vaccine roll out in their local area

Thara Raj, Director of Public Health for Warrington and co-Public Health Director Lead for the vaccine rollout, said:

The range of settings through which the vaccine has been delivered is testament to the collaborative, whole-system approach which has enabled Cheshire and Merseyside to reach this number of vaccines administered. This is a fantastic achievement and really encouraging news as we look forward to the future and the path out of the pandemic.

I want to emphasise that both the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have approved all our vaccine after rigorous evaluation which is why it is offered safely in Cheshire and Merseyside.”

Matt Ashton, Director of Public Health for Liverpool and co-Public Health Director Lead for the vaccine rollout, said:

“I am delighted that Cheshire and Merseyside has reached this milestone and I know this would not have happened were it not for the hard work and commitment from our colleagues in the health and care system. This life-saving jab will not only provide protection, but will also provide peace of mind for our many clinically vulnerable residents and older population and I would encourage anyone who has not yet had their jab but has been offered one to book their appointment as soon as possible.”

Delivery of second doses of the vaccine stepped up significantly recently and will be increasing over the coming weeks whilst first doses to the relevant cohorts continue. To learn more about how the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme is delivered across Cheshire and Merseyside, please visit https://www.cheshireandmerseysidepartnership.co.uk/our-work/covid-19-vaccination/
