Blog: The legislative process in parliament

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which will usher in the country’s first Smokefree Generation, was brought to Parliament for its First reading on Wednesday 20th March. This is a procedural event, but important nonetheless, with the first vote of MPs to take place during the Second reading.

To ensure the Bill gets as much support as possible, the Collaborative has written to MPs in the subregion asking them to support this vital change in the law. What happens next? A full process will be followed to enact the Bill into law, which the Institute for government has outlined in this blog.
