Professor Sir Michael’s Marmot’s Institute of Health Equity has teamed up with the financial services and asset management company Legal & General to launch the country’s first Health Equity Network.
The purpose of the network is to support the variety of public, private and third sector partners working to reduce health inequalities with a single platform to connect, share ideas and present examples of best practice.
Individual users and organisations can sign up to the Network and create profiles that detail their specific areas of interest, as well as start and contribute to conversations relating to health equity Programmes, news and policies.
The Network was formally launched on Tuesday 24th January 2023 with an online event that saw over 800 colleagues come together to hear from range of speaks, including Sir Michael himself, about the importance of this Network and how fair employment can positively impact health. Dr Tammy Boyce, Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Health Equity, said:
“The launch of this Health Equity Network comes at a time of significant economic pressure in this country – the cost of living crisis – which we know is already having an indirect impact on peoples’ health. It is our hope that by launching this platform, the range of dedicated people and organisations working tirelessly to reduce inequalities and improve health will have a tool that adds value to their work and will inspire innovative ideas and ways of working. I would encourage as many public, private and third sector organisations as possible to sign up, as the more people we have on there, the better it will be.”
