Congratulations to Dr Sam Ghebrehewet, Professor Iain Buchan, and Professor Calum Semple OBE, who were honoured and recognised by the Faculty of Public Health for their exceptional efforts as part of the ongoing COVID-19 response and their significant contributions to public health research and practice.
Sam, who is Regional Director for Health Protection for the UK Health Security Agency in the North West, was awarded President’s Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Public Health.

Iain is Chair in Public Health and Clinical Informatics at the University of Liverpool and founding Executive Dean of its Institute of Population Health was the recipient of the Faculty’s prestigious Alwyn Smith Prize and Calum, who is the University’s Professor of Child Health and Outbreak Medicine and Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, has been elected by the Faculty of Public Health to Fellowship through Distinction of the Faculty.
Speaking about this recognition, Professor Maggie Rae, President of the Faculty of Public Health, said:

I am constantly blown away by the innovation and brilliant work taking place in Cheshire and Merseyside, aided by the Champs Public Health Collaborative, and I am looking forward to seeing what’s next for the subregion.”
