New lead roles for Directors of Public Health

Cheshire and Merseyside’s Directors of Public Health, who work together as the Champs Public Health Collaborative, have refreshed their lead roles, as part of a regular review of Programmes.

Each Director takes a lead role, which is often linked to one of the Collaborative’s Programmes and carries out this work across the subregion. This results in a reduction of duplication and allows a Director, as well as the Champs Support Team, to deliver Programmes at scale across Cheshire and Merseyside.

The lead roles for 2021/22, which were agreed at a recent away day, are as follows:

  • Margaret Jones, Sefton – Reducing Harm from Alcohol
  • Matt Ashton, Liverpool – Communications and Social Marketing, Strategic Partnerships and Strategic Intelligence and Research
  • Julie Webster, Wirral – COVID-19 Contact Tracing
  • Dr Matt Tyrer, Cheshire East – Workforce Development and CPD
  • Dr Sarah McNulty, Knowsley – Cardiovascular Disease and High Blood Pressure and Screening and Immunisation
  • Thara Raj, Warrington – Health Protection
  • Ruth Du Plessis, St Helens – Mental Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention
  • Ian Ashworth, Cheshire West and Chester – Population Health and Marmot Community

Dr Ifeoma Onyia, who has recently taken up the role of Director of Public Health for Halton, will agree her lead role in the coming months.
