The University of Chester are hosting a public ‘Haygarth Public Health Lecture’ on Cheshire and Merseyside’s All Together Fairer programme, with a focus on a collaboration for tackling health inequalities.

Haygarth celebrates the legacy of 18th Century physician Dr John Haygarth, who pioneered disease control measures. Described as ‘Clinical Investigator – Apostle of Sanitation’, he helped stem a smallpox epidemic threatening the city’s population in the late 1700s whilst practising Medicine at Chester Royal Infirmary.

All Together Fairer is our collaborative approach to improving health equity and the social determinants of health in the subregion. The Programme brings together public, private and third sector organisations with one shared aim: to build a fairer, healthier Cheshire and Merseyside.

Hosting the event are Ian Ashworth, Champs All Together Fairer Lead and Director of Population Health at NHS Cheshire and Merseyside and Helen Bromley, Champs Health Protection Lead and Director of Public Health for Cheshire West and Chester.

This year’s Haygarth lecture describes the All Together Fairer Programme and explores what it looks like locally in Cheshire West and Chester.

Tea and coffee will be served from 6pm.
