Following the publication of the All Together Fairer Neighbourhoods Framework in March, the Chairs of Cheshire and Merseyside’s All Together Fairer Board and Neighbourhoods Task and Finish Group; Professor Matt Ashton, Professor Ian Ashworth and Professor Helen Bromley, have published an article with The Municipal Journal.
The article sets out how the subregion’s neighbourhood approach offers practical insight for systems responding to the Government’s new neighbourhood health framework. Outlining how the framework builds on long standing commitments to tackling the wider determinants of health, strengthens collaboration between the NHS, local government and community partners, providing practical guidance for creating neighbourhood health plans.
Aswell as highlighting several principles that have proved essential in practice, such as shaping plans by local insight, embedding prevention into everyday delivery, and genuine community partnership. The Chairs also stress the importance of aligning new neighbourhood health investment with existing community assets, avoiding duplication, and focusing on outcomes rather than activity.
The article also includes how the endorsement from both Cheshire and Warrington and Liverpool City Region local Combined Authorities is significant in this approach to improving population health and reducing inequalities
