Series of powerful videos supporting LGBTQIA+ Suicide Awareness Training shared ahead of Liverpool Pride

Dr Rory McGill, Director of Public Health in Sefton and Champs lead Director of Public Health for Suicide Prevention, is sharing a series of powerful videos to support the recently launched Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) training for the LGBTQIA+ community.

In these honest and personal videos (see above) Rory reflects on his own experiences and highlights the importance of the training, encouraging more people to take part and help save lives.

The LGBTQIA+ ZSA training, developed in partnership with Liverpool City Council, gives people the confidence and practical skills to recognise when someone may be struggling with suicidal thoughts and respond in a supportive way.

Rory said:

“LGBTQIA+ people continue to face inequalities that can have a profound impact on mental health. Shame and stigma can stop people reaching out, and we need to create environments where those conversations feel safe. This training brings together lived experience and clinical insight to help people recognise when someone may be struggling and respond with compassion.

“Destigmatising discussions around suicide is essential if we want to save lives. This training brings those realities to the forefront in a sensitive, practical way, and I’m proud to have contributed my experiences as part of the training.”
