Professor Matt Ashton talked about the impact the rising cost of living is having on children and young people at recent key annual Public Health Conference

Professor Matt Ashton, Director of Public Health, Liverpool City Council and Policy Lead for Healthy Places, Association of Directors and Public Health (ADPH) spoke on the panel at the Public Health Conference delivered by the Local Government Association (LGA) in partnership with the ADPH and the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) last month.

At the key annual conference which offered delegates the opportunity to hear from leading expert speakers on the very latest thinking in national public health policy issues, as well as gaining insights from those delivering on the ground, Professor Ashton talked about the impact the rising cost of living is having on children and young people.

He said: “Children are the musicians, athletes, politicians, business leaders – and public health professionals – of the future. It is not just right, it is essential that we support, nurture, enable and empower our young people.

“Fairer societies do better overall. If we have parts of our society that are unfairly disadvantaged, and particularly our children and young people, there is an impact for the whole country.”
