Professor Sir Michael Marmot highlighted Cheshire and Merseyside as one of the Marmot Places delivering exceptional work in tackling Child and Family Poverty in a recent LBC interview with Andrew Marr.
Sir Michael was interviewed on the national radio station to discuss why the UK has some of the worst child health outcomes in Europe, with poverty rates growing faster than in any other OECD member country between 2010 and 2020.
Delivered through our All Together Fairer programme, Cheshire and Merseyside’s work on improving health equity was praised alongside Coventry and Greater Manchester.
Mentioned around the 04.30 mark, Sir Michael said:
“I did my Marmot review in 2010 and we created a set of recommendations to reduce health inequalities. The city of Coventry in 2013 said we will be a Marmot city, we will take your report, give every child the best start in life with education, employment, income, housing, and we’ll do it at the city level.”
“And then, Greater Manchester and Cheshire and Merseyside took it up, and all around the country now they’re doing it. It’s wonderful!”
