Through the ‘Every Breath Matters’ initiative, One Knowsley has demonstrated the power of collaborative working to improve health outcomes and tackle inequalities. Bringing together community organisations, health partners and residents, the project combined data, local insight and lived experience to address low lung screening uptake in Kirkby, where lung cancer rates are almost twice the national average.
By creating community-led activities that made conversations about lung health visible, accessible and relevant, the initiative helped transform engagement with screening services. As a result, lung screening uptake across Kirkby Primary Care Network increased from 33.9% to 63.8%, supporting earlier diagnosis and better outcomes for local people.
