A workshop for policy makers and practitioners in northwest England interested in research on approaches to ‘levelling up’ health.

This workshop is taking place as part of a programme of research on health inequalities funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) School for Public Health Research (SPHR).

Hosted by NIHR SPHR researchers, the workshop aims are:

  • To understand the types of policies or actions related to addressing social or structural determinants of health inequalities in the current climate that the research should be looking at
  • To explore what types of local policies and actions are understood to come under the banner of Levelling Up
  • To understand how economic, political and social factors in local systems and organisations or other co-existing crises could affect positive changes
  • To explore how organisations can access evidence, data and other local knowledge to inform decision making and how this could be supported in future

The workshop discussions will inform future NIHR SPHR research plans – the goal of which is to produce timely and useful evidence to improve outcomes for residents living in some of the most socio-economically disadvantaged areas of England.
