Lead Director helps shape new LGBTQ+ Suicide Awareness Training

Dr Rory McGill, Director of Public Health for Sefton and Lead Champs Director for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention has contributed to the development of new LGBTQ+ Suicide Awareness Training.

Rory has contributed to the development of the training by sharing his lived experience and professional expertise on suicidality and how to support those in the LGBTQ+ community.

The new training course, commissioned by Liverpool City Council, is aligned with national suicide prevention priorities and has been shaped by lived experience, community insight, and clinical expertise.

It aims to help people feel more confident, informed, and able to support someone who may be struggling.

A webinar took place on Thursday 4th June 2026 covering why the course was developed, looking at how insights and lived experiences helped to shaped it and offered a first look at the training before its public release.
