Knowsley Council have released their annual Public Health Report on Improving lung health in Knowsley, authored by Dr Sarah McNulty, Director of Public Health for Knowsley and Champs Lead for CVD Prevention and All Together Smokefree.
Respiratory disease affects one in five people and stands as the third leading cause of death in England, surpassed only by cancer and cardiovascular disease. The annual report highlights that in Knowsley, this reality is even more pronounced due to longstanding health inequalities within the community.
The report focuses on respiratory diseases, which are affecting residents’ health: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, infectious diseases and lung cancer. It also looks at why some residents are more affected than others, the potential causes, and the risk factors.
An important focus is placed on diagnosis and treatment of diseases at an early stage and how services are contributing towards the promotion of early detection, prevention, and improvements in lung health. Ultimately, the report outlines how work will continue across the Knowsley Council and with other partner agencies to promote and improve healthy behaviours and reduce health inequalities in Knowsley communities.
We invite you to view the annual report here and to share with colleagues and partners.
