The Institute of Health Equity have published their latest report ‘All Together Fairer for Health Equity: Champs Public Health Collaborative and the IHE‘.
The report praises the success of the Champs Collaborative’s All Together Fairer model, and outlines the strong partnership between local authority and the NHS, drawing attention to the importance and value of this relationship and how this helps achieve better outcomes for residents.
The report also highlights how the unique model has allowed Directors of Public Health and Population Health to be system leaders on inequalities resulting in big achievements such as the local Health and Care Partnership endorsing All Together Fairer and embedding it into its five-year plan.
Some key quotes from interviews in the report include:
“The Collaborative brings together the Directors of Public Health from all nine local authorities in Cheshire and Merseyside, enabling senior public health consultants and teams to work together. It has become a well-established and trusted system, widely regarded as the backbone of public health leadership across the subregion.”
“Champs is a conduit… not just an administrative network but a strategic, nurturing, and effective system.”
“One of the Collaborative’s defining strengths lies in its ability to foster collaboration, leadership development, and collective learning. Interviewees consistently described how the Collaborative creates “spaces to connect, reflect, and share,” helping to overcome siloed ways of working and instilling a shared identity among public health professionals.”
“The Collaborative offers continuity, trusted relationships, and embedded infrastructure for joint working.”
“Cheshire and Merseyside are leading the way in showing what it means to become a Marmot Region. This is a chance to improve health and reduce inequalities by acting across the social determinants of health.” (Michael Marmot at the launch of the partnership)
“The All Together Fairer strategy has contributed to a significant shift in how system leaders across the subregion understand and approach health inequalities.”
“The Champs Public Health Collaborative shows what is possible when collaboration is nurtured, leadership is consistent, and equity becomes a shared ambition. The path forward is not to copy this model exactly, but to adapt its principles: lead locally, act collectively, focus relentlessly on outcomes, and make health equity everyone’s business.”
Helen Bromley, Director of Public Health for Cheshire West and Chester and Chair of the Champs Collaborative’s Executive Board has said,
‘I’m delighted that the Institute of Health Equity has recognised the hard work of our Collaborative through the All Together Fairer model. I am extremely proud of this model and we as a Collaborative believe that the continuous engagement and strong relationships between the local authorities and the NHS are paramount in delivering positive, successful outcomes for our residents’
