Over the last year, the hard work of Cheshire and Merseyside’s public health family has been highlighted and recognised by a range of prestigious national partners, including the King’s Fund, the Local Government Association and The Health Foundation.
To have such high-profile praise is fantastic news for the subregion, and it also helps inspire and empower other areas in the country to learn from this great work.

- The King’s Fund – This national think tank featured Cheshire and Merseyside’s unique model of public health and population health leadership as an example of best practice in its ongoing series on population health leadership. As part of this, Professor Matt Ashton was also asked to speak at a King’s Fund event on behalf of the Collaborative to share more about this model and the successes it has produced.
- Local Government Association – The LGA’s report, ‘Building fairer towns, cities and regions: Insights from Marmot Places’ highlighted Cheshire and Merseyside’s All Together Fairer Programme as one of the Marmot Places delivering exceptional work. The LGA also published a detailed case study on All Together Fairer as part of this, including an interview with Professor Ian Ashworth, NHS Cheshire and Merseyside’s Director of Population Health.
- NHS Confederation – The focus of this national body is to empower and support healthcare organisations to improve population health, deliver high-quality care and reduce health inequalities. In its recent report ‘Alleviating child poverty – a shared endeavour: the critical role ICSs can play in the government’s child poverty strategy’, All Together Fairer’s Child and Family Poverty Programme featured as a case study example.
- The Health Foundation – As part of the ‘Addressing the leading risk factors for ill health – supporting local government to do more’ report, the subregion supported a specific project to identify potential policy proposals to support local government do more to reduce harm from tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy food.
- Association of Directors of Public Health – The Collaborative’s Public Health Workforce Wellbeing Pilot featured by the Association of Directors of Public Health in its national members’ bulletin.
As well as this national praise, the work of the Collaborative has been highlighted across a range of media outlets, awards categories and events and conferences.
