Farewell and thank you to Eileen O’Meara, Director of Public Health for Halton

Champs Directors of Public Health and the wider Public Health Collaborative would like to wish Eileen O’Meara, Director of Public Health (DPH) for Halton a very happy retirement and thank her for her valuable contributions to both Halton and the Collaborative.

Eileen has led on many areas for the Collaborative, more recently as Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for Population Health culminating in Cheshire and Merseyside becoming a Marmot Community. Eileen has done tremendous work contributing passionately particularly to population health with the Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. She also leads on Health Protection and with her vast knowledge and experience, has been at the centre of our COVID-19 response.

Eileen’s fellow DsPH across Cheshire and Merseyside have described her as “passionate, tenacious, strong, resilient and determined”.

Ifeoma Onyia will take up the post of Interim DPH in Halton once Eileen retires in August.

Ian Ashworth, DPH for Cheshire West and Chester will become SRO for Population Health and Thara Raj, DPH Warrington will take over health protection.
