Cheshire and Merseyside leaders highlight health equity in devolution plans

We welcome the publication of a joint byline piece in The MJ by Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, and Cllr Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, which underscores the vital role of health equity in shaping the future of devolution

The article reflects our shared ambition to make Cheshire and Merseyside the healthiest, fairest, and most inclusive place in the UK to live, work, and do business. Building on the principles of the Marmot approach and our All Together Fairer programme, it calls for health equity to be hardwired into every local decision – from housing and transport to education and employment.

As devolution progresses, this commitment will ensure that the success of these changes is measured not by powers transferred, but by lives improved. Together with partners across the public, private, voluntary, and academic sectors, we are determined to create conditions where every community can thrive.
