Celebrating our professional workforce

Since its formation, a major part of our Collaborative’s work has been around supporting the public health workforce to be the best it can be, offering a wealth of training and development opportunities. On 7th October, the Royal Society for Public Health is running its Public Health Workforce week which celebrates and raises awareness of the crucial work of the whole public health workforce and their incredible achievements.

In Cheshire and Merseyside, we are blessed with a talented and dedicated workforce and colleagues have been able to take advantage of development opportunities such as the UKPHR North West public health practitioner programme.

Success for the North West public health practitioner programme

The UKPHR North West public health practitioner programme, hosted by our Collaborative, aims to ensure practitioners work to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of the communities they serve.  Over 11 colleagues within Cheshire and Merseyside have already completed the programme which is fantastic and cohorts are ongoing to further develop the sub regions public health workforce.

Become an assessor or verifier

The North West public health practitioner programme is looking for public health colleagues to support either as assessors or verifiers.  For those interested in assessing portfolios against the UKPHR’s public health standards and are senior public health colleagues with an interest in supporting the development of others, and can spare around 3 hours every 3 months, we would love to hear from you.

For those interested in becoming verifiers and supporting the quality assurance process for assessments, the programme is seeking Consultants, Registrars (ST4+) and retired consultants who maintain their own CPD.

Assessors and verifiers have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to the development of public health careers for individuals
  • Support the professionalisation of public health practitioners
  • Undertake UKPHR certificated training and appraisal to contribute to their own CPD
  • Enhance their understanding of how the full range and scope of public health knowledge and skills are applied to the implementation of public health interventions by practitioners
  • Broaden their understanding and appreciation of public health agendas, policies, roles, services and interventions in other areas

For further information on how to apply to become an assessor or verifier please email admin@healthtalks.org.uk or access Champs Public Health Collaborative website.
