All Together Fairer Neighbourhoods showcased nationally

On Monday 18th May Mike Bridges, Consultant in Public Health for Warrington Borough Council and Rebecca Mellor, Public Health Principal for Wirral Council delivered an innovation showcase on All Together Fairer Neighbourhoods at the HSJ Reducing Health Inequalities Forum.

Their session explored the growing national focus on neighbourhood level health, setting out why neighbourhood health matters now more than ever, the Cheshire and Merseyside approach and how systems can turn principles into practical action.

Other innovation showcases at the conference included ‘Tackling the most extreme health inequalities by improving hospital care and ending street discharges’ and ‘Improving outcomes for those with severe and multiple disadvantage. Cancer diagnosis and support was also a focus of the showcase sessions the Cancer Research explored ‘Late diagnosis of cancer: Three tools for addressing deprivation inequalities’ and Cancer Alliance showcased ‘Developing Digital Cancer Support for Better Patient Outcomes’

This marks the start of a busy period for the Cheshire and Merseyside, as over the next few months representatives from the Champs Collaborative will be showcasing the All Together Fairer Neighbourhood Framework across a series of regional and national platforms. These important opportunities give the Collaborative a chance to not only share learning, but to spark collaboration on the challenges shaping the future of public health.

Somerset Health Determinants Research Collaboration webinar (3rd June)

Alicia Phillips, Senior Consultant leading on Marmot Places and Louise Vernon, All Together Fairer Programme Manager, Champs Public Health Collaborative will be joining Professor Sir Michael Marmot in discussing the recent Health Foundation report and its implications for healthy life expectancy in the UK. Alicia and Louise will be exploring real-world examples of how to rally a system around a health equity project and the challenges and opportunities that arise.

Citizen’s Advice conference – Beyond the Limit: Improving Outcomes for Children and Families Across Cheshire and Merseyside (11th June)

Dave Bradburn, Director of Public Health Wirral and Lead Director for Child and Family Poverty will be chairing this conference while Professor Matt Ashton , Director of Public Health Liverpool and Co-Chair of Cheshire and Merseyside’s All Together Fairer Board   will deliver closing remarks.

Also presenting is Dr Susan Roberts, Consultant in Public Health, Cheshire East who will be discussing taking a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) approach to understanding poverty. Aswell as Sharon Marshall, Poverty Truth Coordinator, Public Health Cheshire West and Chester who will discuss using lived experience to make lasting change.

The King’s Fund Neighbourhood and integrated care summit: putting people at the heart of health and care (15th July)

Professor Matt Ashton, Director of Public Health Liverpool and Co-Chair of Cheshire and Merseyside’s All Together Fairer Board will be hosting a session ‘Putting a people-first approach to neighbourhood health into practice’. During this session Professor Matt Ashton and national partners will examine how to prioritise a community-led, relationship-based approach to neighbourhood health, the behaviours and habits that inhibit taking a people-first approach and how to overcome these and how to take a people-first approach under the potential constraints of expectations from national bodies.
