A review of the school nursing service was identified as an early priority by the Commissioning Leadership Group with the review being led by Julie Webster, Deputy Director of Public Health for Wirral.
The working group started to review the school nursing programme but agreed that it would be of greater benefit to widen the scope of the review to include the Healthy Child Programme (5 to 19). Liverpool John Moores University were asked to carry out a review of the available evidence regarding the different services’ and their effectiveness and cost, a copy of their findings can be accessed here.
An audit tool and questionnaire has also been developed and issued to local leads in order to collect the necessary qualitative and quantitative information to inform the review of provision across Cheshire and Merseyside. The questionnaire will inform the outputs of phase 1 of the project with a view to developing shared specifications and recommendations for future service delivery. The draft findings of the review will be presented to the Healthy Child Programme working group at their August meeting.
